1st Lady Regina Blount

Mrs. Regina Blount has been involved in church activities all of her life. A native of Asheville, N.C., she received her bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Journalism from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee and also received her certification to teach from Mars Hill College, now Mars Hill University.

Regina is the daughter of Marye McDaniel, a retired educator, and the late Herman McDaniel, a building contractor.  She is grateful for the sacrifices her parents made so that she had what she needed.  She is the granddaughter of the late Luvenia McDaniel, who showered Regina with love and was a great example to her.

She owes a debt of gratitude to all the women who were great examples of what it meant to be a pastors’ wife. “I was blessed to spend time with my grandmother, Mrs. Arsie M. Grant. She taught in words and deeds. I did not have any idea, of course, that I would be a pastor’s wife. I follow in the giant footsteps of Sis. Rosa Brewer, whose husband, Rev. B.F. Brewer, pastored Tried Stone for more than 54 years.”

Regina Blount and Pastor Alfred Blount will celebrate 30 years of marriage in October of 2018. They have been blessed with three children who are all in college. Regina, a former teacher with Asheville City Schools System and currently a teacher’s assistant at Carolina Day School, feels she is also blessed to be a part of the lives of her students, her church youth and other young people with whom she is connected.

Having worked with children for many years, she has a heart for education. She talks about school A LOT and feels that one of her responsibilities is to encourage others to continue their education, especially to go to college.

She states that there are many things for which she is grateful: family, her church family, friends and colleagues. Regina feels especially thankful for the lessons learned through challenges and for the opportunities to grow and learn.

One thing she loves to do is to pray. She values the time she is able to read about prayer and to gain more knowledge on the subject of prayer.

Regina Blount grew up in her grandfather’s church, Worldwide Missionary Baptist Tabernacle in Asheville. Her grandfather, Rev. Dr. Wesley Grant Sr., pastored for over 50 years. Her grandfather had a Christian television and radio show, “Count on Me.” This afforded Regina the opportunity to sing at church, on TV and on the radio. She also directed the choir at her grandfather’s church. This helped prepare her to work with choirs in other churches as well as choirs of her membership.  At Tried Stone, she assists the Minister of Music, Mr. J. Cornell Proctor. She is a member of the Praise Team, the Women’s Ministry, the Outreach Ministry and the Adult Choir.  Regina is currently working towards a Master of Elementary Education degree at Mars Hill University.  She has completed basic level training in Orton-Gillingham coursework.  Orton-Gillingham is a comprehensive multi-sensory language instruction approach specifically designed for students with language-base learning disabilities.

Because of Regina’s passion for children and education, she aspires one day to write children’s books as well as books on other subjects of interest.
